Sony Xperia Z4 (Z3+) don't need root, just install Boldbeast Recorder and go.

Please use these settings to record calls:
- Record Mode: 4, 3 or 1
- Record Format: WAV or AMR
- Tune Audio Route: Group3

The app records calls perfectly in two directions, confirmed by Sony E6553 Android 5.0.2.
